LAS VEGAS (AP) - A 22-year-old woman is due for sentencing in Las Vegas for conspiring to poison the husband of a woman convicted of orchestrating another plot to kill the man for his life insurance.
Courtney Smith is due Monday to become the fourth person sentenced in the case arising from the wounding of Robert Bessey while he drove to work on Interstate 15 in November 2012.
Smith pleaded guilty in May 2013 to conspiracy to commit a felony, and testified in November against Amy Denise Pearson Bessey.
Bessey was convicted of felonies including conspiracy and attempted murder. She's serving up to 44 years in state prison.
Smith was accused of conspiring with Amy Bessey to kill Robert Bessey on Father's Day 2012 by giving him an energy drink laced with poison.
