Girlfriend: Man Killed by Police Was Distraught

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) - The girlfriend of a 36-year-old man shot and killed by Henderson police says her boyfriend was distraught and may have been suicidal.

Ariella Kidd tells KLAS-TV that Justin Hoey wasn't acting like himself, and that he told her ahead of time that he was going to die.

Police say officers responding to a report late Tuesday that a man assaulted his ex-girlfriend at a Henderson gas station found Hoey making suicidal statements and pointing a gun at himself.

Police shot Hoey when they say he pointed the weapon at officers.

Kidd says she watched the nearly two-hour standoff near St. Rose Parkway and Eastern Avenue, but was prevented from talking with Hoey.

Three Henderson police officers are on paid leave pending results of a departmental investigation.
