Girl, 16, Hit by School Bus in North Las Vegas

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - A 16-year-old girl is hospitalized with critical injuries after being hit by a school bus near an elementary school in North Las Vegas.

North Las Vegas police Sgt. Tim Bedwell says the girl was taken to University Medical Center in Las Vegas with a severe leg injury following the 4 p.m. Thursday accident on Brooks Avenue near Berg Street. That's near Lincoln Elementary School.

Bedwell says the accident happened near a crosswalk, but it's not immediately clear if the girl was in it when she was struck by the yellow Clark County School District special needs bus.

One child and the 54-year-old driver were on the bus. They weren't hurt.

Bedwell says the driver is cooperating with police and has provided a blood sample for drug and alcohol screening.
