LAS VEGAS (AP) - A fugitive former Las Vegas prosecutor who lost his job and was suspended from practicing law following a drug conviction is in custody after going missing.
Attorney Louis Schneider tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal that David Schubert was arrested at the Mexican border Sunday while trying to come back to the U.S. to turn himself in.
Schubert was scheduled to surrender for a nine-month jail sentence on Sept. 21. But he never showed up to court, and the judge issued a warrant for his arrest.
Schubert prosecuted high-profile drug cases, including plea deals with celebrities Paris Hilton and Bruno Mars.
He resigned from the Clark County district attorney's office after he was arrested in March 2011 with cocaine and an unregistered handgun in his car. He pleaded guilty.
