LAS VEGAS (AP) - Prosecutors are alleging that a former Las Vegas kindergarten teacher who is accused of harboring a runaway teenager at his home gave the girl a sexually transmitted disease.
Melvyn Perry Sprowson Jr. isn't criminally charged with having sex with the 16-year-old, and his defense attorney, John Momot Jr., declined Thursday to comment about the STD claim.
The Las Vegas Sun reports that prosecutors raised the issue during a Wednesday bail hearing at which a Nevada state court judge agreed to lower Sprowson's bail from $530,000 to $130,000.
The 45-year-old Sprowson remains jailed pending a preliminary hearing Monday in Las Vegas Justice Court on felony kidnapping, child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a child and obstruction charges.
He could face life in prison if he's convicted of kidnapping.
