LAS VEGAS (AP) - A former Las Vegas-area teacher's aide is taking a plea deal to avoid trial on felony charges that she physically mistreated two special needs students.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Lachelle Deanne James waived a preliminary hearing Monday in Las Vegas Justice Court and agreed to plead guilty June 30 to two charges of child neglect.
James also uses the names Lachelle or Michelle McCraney.
She was arrested in March 2012 at Variety High School on child abuse and battery charges after police said she was videotaped kneeling on an autistic 11-year-old boy's back to pin him to the floor and elbowing his face, and shoving another student into cabinets.
James told police the first boy bit another student and tried to punch her feet.
