Former Fugitive Lawyer Gets Prison, Must Pay

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A former fugitive Las Vegas lawyer convicted of stealing personal injury settlements from clients is being ordered to spend 105 months in prison and pay almost $1 million in restitution.

Senior U.S. District Judge Roger L. Hunt sentenced 45-year-old Lawrence Davidson on Monday. Davidson faced three criminal cases and pleaded guilty in May to numerous charges, including mail fraud, money laundering and failing to appear in court.

Davidson left Las Vegas for Israel with a phony passport in September 2006, about a month before he was to stand trial on charges that he defrauded clients.

The disbarred lawyer also faced charges at the time in a sweeping political corruption probe that resulted in convictions and prison terms for four former Clark County commissioners and a strip club owner.
