LAS VEGAS (AP) - Firefighters rescued four window washers after
they were stranded outside the 35th floor of a Las Vegas Strip
high-rise hotel. No injuries are reported.
It took three hours Wednesday for Las Vegas firefighters to
descend from the roof of the 46-story Vdara (vid-AR-uh) Hotel to
harness and lower workers one at a time to a landing area below.
NBC affiliate KSNV-TV in Las Vegas aired the rescue live.
The National Weather Service reported 104 degree temperatures
and moderate 10 mph winds at nearby McCarran International Airport
at the time.
Vdara is one of several hotels in MGM Resorts International's
big CityCenter complex.
A hotel spokeswoman says the workers' stalled due to a
mechanical malfunction.
Clark County spokeswoman Stacey Welling says city and county
firefighters were summoned about noon.
