LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities have finally tracked down the family of a 58-year-old University of Nevada, Las Vegas student who was found dead in her dorm room last month.
Officials struggled to notify relatives of the death of Karen S. Matthews, whose body was found in her dorm room in Faiman Residence Hall on Sept. 5.
Matthews had left contact information for a relative with the school, but it was outdated and led to a dead end.
Nearly all of the woman's relatives had died, and officials were having trouble finding one surviving sister.
Clark County Coroner Mike Murphy tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal his office made a break in the difficult case over the weekend after brainstorming with police.
Murphy says they eventually located the sister in Victoria, Texas.
