Eight Arrested in Bookmaking Investigation

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Nevada gambling regulator says eight Las Vegas area residents have been arrested in a New York City police investigation of illegal bookmaking and money laundering, including the sports book chief at the M Resort in Henderson.

Gaming Control Board enforcement chief Jerry Markling says Cantor Gaming manager Michael Colbert was arrested Wednesday along with seven others not involved with the company.

A Cantor spokesman says the case doesn't involve the company.

An M Resort spokeswoman didn't immediately respond to a message.

Records show Colbert and six others are jailed in Las Vegas.

Markling says one person was taken to an area hospital as a precaution.

Markling says each faces enterprise corruption, money laundering and conspiracy charges in New York.

Colbert's arrest was first reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
