LAS VEGAS (AP) - Police say a coyote was shot dead in front of a Las Vegas elementary school after a nearly two-hour pursuit through a neighborhood.
Authorities who were called a little after noon on Tuesday say the animal was so big that it was initially confused for a wolf. Police Officer Laura Meltzer says the coyote had been scaling walls and attacking pets.
Meltzer say officers confined the animal to a backyard and fired, but the coyote escaped.
Officers eventually killed the animal a little after 2 p.m. in front of Dailey Elementary School, near the intersection of Tropicana and Eastern avenues.
Meltzer says no humans were injured in the ordeal.
