CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - The son of late Nevada Gov. Kenny Guinn cannot delay a deposition in a civil suit brought by investors in a Las Vegas condominium project pending outcome of an FBI investigation.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Jeff Guinn's lawyers argued depositions by him and his Aspen Financial Services associates could be funneled to the FBI and a grand jury considering criminal charges in the case that involves more than $1 million, potentially violating their Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.

Justices Thursday rejected those claims, saying both cases can proceed. The court noted other civil cases have been delayed until criminal matters are concluded, but said those involved defendants under indictment.

Jeff Guinn's father was governor from 1999 to 2007. He died in 2010 after falling from a roof.
