LAS VEGAS (AP) - Clark County fire officials say they rescued a husband and wife who were trapped in the back bedroom of a burning apartment after tossing two children to a neighbor below.
Authorities say they responded about 2:30 a.m. Friday to a fire at the Conejo Villas Apartments on West Hacienda Avenue, near Tropicana Avenue and Decatur Boulevard.
Firefighters say heavy smoke and flames were visible near the front entrance of a second-floor apartment when they arrived. Crews say they used a ladder to help the two adults escape through a bedroom window.
Officials say the couple had already dropped two children to a neighbor below the window before firefighters arrived.
Investigators say the fire was caused by flammable material that was too close to a water heater on the apartment's patio.
