LAS VEGAS (AP) - Clark County commissioners are considering a
law requiring people giving out handbills and pamphlets on the Las
Vegas Strip to clean up the items from sidewalks and storm drains.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the misdemeanor ordinance set for discussion on Tuesday would have so-called "smut peddlers" clean up every 15 minutes within a 50-foot radius of where they're standing.
The proposal is the latest effort to clean up the tourist area near the area's resorts and casinos from a panel set up with a $581,000 budget to spend three months looking at pedestrian congestion on sidewalks in the tourist corridor.
American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada attorney Allen Lichtenstein says the anti-litter law may not work because it would penalize one person for somebody else's litter.
