LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Clark County family services employee has been fired in the fallout from a 7-year-old Las Vegas boy's beating death.

Officials say the county Department of Family Services received a call to its hotline Nov. 28 reporting apparent child abuse against Roderick "R.J." Arrington.

They say that while they were investigating it, they got new information that Arrington was in critical condition at the hospital with head injuries and extensive bruises.

The second-grader later died.

His mother and her husband were charged with murder and child abuse in the case.

County officials they reviewed their hotline policies and found they were appropriate. But they say some staff didn't adhere to the policies.

The county says it took disciplinary action, including the firing.
