LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Colombian couple pleaded not guilty in a
Nevada court to murder and other charges stemming from a
back-office buttocks enhancement surgery that authorities allege
killed a 42-year-old Las Vegas woman.
Ruben Dario Matallana-Galvas and Carmen Olfidia Torres-Sanchez
entered their pleas Thursday in Clark County District Court in Las
Vegas. A judge set trial for Feb. 27.
A grand jury in Las Vegas indicted the 55-year-old
Matallana-Galvas and 47-year-old Torres-Sanchez last week on
charges including misdemeanor practicing medicine without a
license, and felony second-degree murder and robbery.
Police arrested the couple at McCarran International Airport on
April 9, hours after the death of Elena Caro.
Police say the couple gave Caro buttocks injection because she
wanted a shapelier figure.
She was later taken to a hospital, where she died.
