Constable Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

LAS VEGAS (AP) - The head of the troubled Las Vegas Township Constable's office has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson says 50-year-old Constable John M. Bonaventura was arrested Tuesday night, after a caller reported an official constable vehicle driving erratically on US 95 near Boulder Highway.

Bonaventura was booked on DUI and speeding charges.

Clark County commissioners are set to propose abolishing Bonaventura's office, which has about two dozen deputies and performs tasks such as serving paperwork and carrying out evictions.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the agency has been criticized for creative accounting practices that circumvent county oversight, as well as for filming a profanity-laced pilot for a reality television show.

Managers at the constable's office weren't immediately available for comment Wednesday.
