LAS VEGAS (AP) - Clark County Republicans want Secretary of State Ross Miller to oust Democratic Assembly candidate Meghan Smith from the race for the District 34 seat for allegedly failing to meet state residency requirements.
The county GOP filed a complaint with Miller Thursday claiming Smith didn't live in the district for the 30 days required before filing her candidacy.
The complaint cites records at the county assessor's office that show she lived at a residence in District 42 as late as March 7 before filing for office March 14.
Smith told the Las Vegas Review-Journal she moved into her new home in District 34 and was living there while waiting for the sale of her old house to close.
She's running against Republican Victoria Seaman for the open seat previously held by Democratic Majority Leader William Horne.
