Clark Judge Denies Misconduct

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A Clark County Family Court judge is denying allegations that he violated judicial conduct rules stemming from a relationship he had with a prosecutor who appeared in his court.

The response filed by an attorney for Judge Steven Jones was released Monday by the Nevada Judicial Discipline Commission, which filed a 12-count complaint against Jones in December.

Jones also says the panel's formal statement of charges is improper and that the disciplinary case lacks merit.

Jones and five others are also under federal indictment in what authorities allege was a $3 million investment fraud scheme. Jones is accused of using his position as a judge to give the alleged scheme legitimacy. Jones has pleaded not guilty.

Last month the judicial panel suspended Jones with pay while the criminal case proceeds.
