LAS VEGAS (AP) - The superintendent of the Clark County School District has announced his resignation, saying he needs to respond to family issues.
Superintendent Dwight Jones' announcement Tuesday comes a little more than two years after he started at the nation's fifth-largest school district. His last day will be March 22, well before the end of his four-year contract.
Jones issued a statement saying he's proud of the work his team has done to set up a school ranking system and is pleased with rising graduation rates.
School Board President Carolyn Edwards said she was sad to hear Jones was leaving, but applauded him for prioritizing his mother and family.
Before taking the helm in Clark County schools, Jones worked as Colorado's commissioner of education.
