LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada's Clark County is considering creating a specialty District Court program aimed at helping veterans who commit lesser crimes and suffer post-combat stress.

The creation of a veterans' court received support last week from the County Commission, the legal community and District Attorney Steve Wolfson.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Commissioner Steve Sisolak warned the specialty court would not equate to a "get-of-of-jail-free card" for veterans who commit crimes.

Discussions began at a state level, when Assemblyman Elliot Anderson, a Marine, received complaints that legislation passed in 2009 creating veterans courts didn't make them mandatory.

Washoe County is the only county that has established a special court for veterans at the district court level. Henderson Municipal Court established a program last year.
