LAS VEGAS (AP) - Clark County commissioners are preparing to appoint a replacement for expelled Nevada Assemblyman Steven Brooks.
Board members meeting Tuesday are expected to choose a new Nevada legislator from among nine applicants.
Assembly Majority Leader William Horne says Assembly leaders are recommending commissioners choose between Meli Pulido and Tyrone Thompson.
A replacement must be a Democrat and live in Brooks' previous Assembly District 17.
Brooks was expelled from the Assembly March 28 after fellow lawmakers testified that they didn't feel safe with him in the legislative building. He was arrested twice and hospitalized for a mental evaluation before the move, and arrested again in California hours after the expulsion.
Other applicants for the seat include Glynn Coleman, Michelle Jotz, Michael Kelly, Mujahid Ramadan, William Robinson II, Kelly Thomas and Brandon Casutt.
