LAS VEGAS (AP) - Charges have been dismissed against a Romanian doctor accused of obtaining money under false pretenses from the ex-wife of a brother of casino mogul Steve Wynn.
Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Joe Bonaventure on Thursday dismissed the charges against Ovidiu Balteanu, who had a recent eight-month romance with Phyllis Wynn after the two met on the Internet.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Balteanu was arrested earlier this month after she wrote him the last of six checks totaling about $57,000.
After their breakup, Wynn went to authorities saying she had been duped into writing the checks and she believed he never used the money for medical accreditation in America as promised.
Bonaventure said he could not determine if Wynn was defrauded based on the evidence presented.
