LAS VEGAS (AP) - One person is dead and two are hospitalized after a crash between a cement truck and a pickup.
Las Vegas Fire and Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski says the collision happened at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday when a cement truck crossed the median, hit an oncoming truck and rolled down a 20-foot embankment.
By the time responders arrived at Summerlin Parkway near U.S. 95 on the city's west side, the driver was dead.
Szymanski says the driver and passenger in the unmarked pickup were city policy officers. They went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
He says responders also treated a man who cut his hands breaking the cab's windows in an attempt to free the trapped driver.
Another bystander reportedly used a fire extinguisher to quell flames around the truck.
