LAS VEGAS (AP) - Clark County is outlawing the sale by
unlicensed vendors of bottled water, T-shirts and other items to
passers-by on the Las Vegas Strip.
County commissioners on Tuesday made sidewalk commerce a
misdemeanor in what Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani
calls an effort to protect the public right-of-way.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the law won't affect handbillers who distribute leaflets and cards for adult entertainment and escort services.
It also won't affect street performers and people who earn tips
by dressing in costumes and posing for photos with tourists.
Some street vendors tell the newspaper the law won't stop them
from trying to make a modest living, even if they face getting a
ticket, paying a fine or spending time in jail.
