Bail Denied for Couple in Child Death Case

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Las Vegas judge denied bail and set an evidence hearing next month for a couple accused of beating the woman's 7-year-old son to death, allegedly because the boy didn't read the Bible and do his homework.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that an evidence hearing was set Jan. 18 for 27-year-old Dina Palmer and 34-year-old Markiece Palmer.

The two face felony charges including murder and child abuse with substantial bodily harm in the death last week of Roderick "RJ" Arrington.

Each could face decades in prison if they are convicted.

Arrington was a second-grader at Roundy Elementary School.

Officials say the boy was admitted Nov. 30 to University Medical Center in critical condition with head injuries and bruises all over his body.

He died the next day.
