LAS VEGAS (AP) - A veteran Las Vegas attorney and 2008 state judicial candidate is going to federal prison for almost three years for evading federal income taxes in 1994 and 1996.
Ian Christopherson apologized before sentencing Monday by U.S. District Judge Miranda Du.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that prosecutors sought a 51-month prison sentence.
Du said 33 months was sufficient.
The judge let the 57-year-old Christopherson remain free pending his surrender March 20.
Du also ordered Christopherson to pay more than $728,000 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service and serve three years of supervised release after prison.
Christopher was convicted of two tax evasion charges in September 2011 after a five-day trial.
He was accused of concealing assets in a bank account under the names of other people.
