LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada Assemblywoman April Mastroluca has abruptly resigned from her seat just weeks after being re-elected to her third term.

The Henderson Democrat cited "personal family reasons" for the decision announced Thursday. She told the Las Vegas Review-Journal she had been talking with her family and decided it would be best to leave before the legislative session starts in February.

Mastroluca is expected to send a formal letter of resignation to Gov. Brian Sandoval on Friday. The Clark County Commission will be accepting applications and appointing a replacement for her.

Mastroluca led the Assembly Committee on Health and Human Services during the 2011 session, and also served on the education and ways and means committees.

She is married and has two children aged 17 and 19.
