Police say a 20-year-old man is recovering in hospital after being shot by an officer early this morning in a shootout near a Home Depot store.
Kerry Purnell was charged with attempted murder of a police officer, felony resisting arrest and carrying a concealed weapon.
Purnell was seen near a Home Depot a block west of The Orleans casino-hotel just after midnight when he was questioned by an officer.
Police say the man then fled on foot, pulled out a gun and started shooting.
The officer returned fire and hit Purnell in the right calf.
The man was arrested at a nearby hotel.
The officer was placed on paid administrative leave.
