New Lawyer Named For Woman Held As Witness In Las Vegas Bomb Case

An illegal immigrant jailed as a material witness since a deadly Las Vegas Strip parking lot bombing in May wants to provide a sworn account of what she knows about the case.

That's according to her new lawyer who says the state is trying to help get 28-year-old Caren Chali out of jail.

Prosecutor Nell Keenan said the state doesn't oppose Chali's release.

But prosecutors need her to provide a deposition about the Luxor bombing case and they fear she'll be deported once she's released.

Authorities believe a tangle of romantic relationships led to the May seventh bombing that killed Willebaldo Dorantes Antonio of Mexico.

One of the accused bombers Omar Rueda-Denvers is the father of Chali's 3-year-old daughter.

Authorities believe he enlisted accused bomb maker Porfirio Duarte-Herrera in a plot to kill Dorantes Antonio because Dorantes Antonio was dating Chali.

Rueda-Denvers and Duarte-Herrera have pleaded not guilty in the case.

Prosecutors say they may seek the death penalty.

Trial is set for next May.
