Cl LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Clark County social services office that serves people in downtown's homeless corridor is closing - a change that will force those it helps to wait in long lines at other, already overcrowded locations.
Clark County said Monday it will close its social services office at the Fertitta Community Assistance Center on July 15.
The county leases the 7,000-square-foot center from Catholic Charities for $173,000 a year.
The county says the cuts were forced because of a legislative grab of county tax revenue, and it says they come at a time when its social service department is experiencing unprecedented demand.
The next closest county social service office is 2.5 miles away. Those who visit the other locations face long lines and lengthywait times.
