LAS VEGAS (AP) - Officials for St. Rose Dominican Hospitals say they are extending a smoking ban at three hospitals in Las Vegas
and Henderson starting July 1.
The ban means that nobody will be allowed to smoke anywhere on
hospital-owned property, including outside hospitals and in parking
Hospital spokesman Andy North says the ban makes sense in that it helps eliminate or reduce preventable deaths.
North says the hospitals have also had problems with patients sneaking out to smoke cigarettes, interfering with treatments.
North says the hospital system plans to provide tobacco supplement lozenges to staff and in hospital gift shops. He says it will also offer free classes for hospital staff members who want to quit smoking.
