Garage Fire Hospitalizes Man Southwest of Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A fire official says a man was treated for smoke inhalation but wasn't hospitalized after fire gutted his garage and swept through a courtyard toward his house southwest of Las Vegas.

Clark County fire spokesman Scott Allison says firefighters stretched hoses a long way to the nearest hydrant to get water to douse flames before they reached the single-story house off South Fort Apache Road and West Cactus Avenue.

Fire investigators are looking for the cause of fire that apparently started in the three-vehicle garage and destroyed foliage and items in the covered courtyard about 8:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Allison says the house is in mountain foothills south of Blue Diamond Road. That's about 10 miles southwest of the Las Vegas Strip.
