Henderson Officers Cleared in Fatal Shooting

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Two Henderson police officers have been cleared
in the March 11 fatal shooting of a gunman at a hospital's emergency room waiting area.

A coroner's jury on Friday ruled the shooting of 48-year-old Charles Campbell at St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Siena campus was justified.

Officers Randy Dotson and John Bozarth fired their rifles at least three times each after Campbell ignored their orders to drop his handgun.

Medical examiner Gary Telgenhoff testified that Campbell entered the emergency room shortly before 1 a.m. with a blood-alcohol level of 0.15 percent and a small trace of the anti-anxiety drug Xanax in his system.

Hospital nurse Susan Selthofner testified that she phoned police after Campbell told her he was going to commit suicide and he wanted to donate his organs.
