LAS VEGAS (AP) - Officials for Clark County and the Service Employees International Union have agreed to reduce worker raises to avoid layoffs.
Clark County officials said Monday that the plan calls for cost of living raises to reduce by 2 percentage points, from 3 percent to 1 percent. The plan also reduces the top range of merit raises by 1 percent.
Clark County officials say employees of the county and University Medical Center will vote on the plan Friday. County officials say the reductions are necessary to "avoid drastic budget reduction measures."
Clark County Commission Chairman Rory Reid says he is grateful for the employees' sacrifices.
SEIU Nevada President Al Martinez says the plan maintains important jobs and services to county residents.
