Judge Upholds Death Penalty for Killer

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A District Court judge has denied a motion for
resentencing for Beau Maestas, a man convicted of killing a 3-year-old girl in a drug-related attack.

Judge Donald Mosley's Friday ruling means Beau Maestas' death penalty remains in place.

Maestas pleaded guilty in 2005 to fatally stabbing 3-year-old Kristyanna Cowan after a methamphetamine deal with Cowan's parents
went bad. Cowan's sister was left paralyzed by the attack.

Three years after the jury unanimously arrived at the death sentence, one juror claimed the forewoman made inappropriate comments that swayed the vote.

Mosley says he found no misconduct occurred while jurors considered the sentence.
