North Las Vegas Police Officers Fired

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - North Las Vegas police say two officers accused in a beating case have been fired after an internal investigation.

Police said that Mark Alan Miles and James Balelo were fired Wednesday, after police finished investigating the December incident at a local casino.

Authorities say Miles is accused of beating a 31-year-old California man and throwing him to the ground while he was handcuffed inside a holding cell. Both Miles and Balelo, police academy classmates, are accused of falsifying their reports about the incident.

Police say the victim didn't file a complaint, but a patrol supervisor found inconsistencies in reports that Miles and Balelosubmitted.

Police say the firing does not affect a criminal case against
the men.
