HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) - Henderson police have opened a new energy-efficient substation in one of the city's oldest neighborhoods.
Officials say the North Substation that opened Tuesday in the Pittman area is the first city building to gain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification.
The building on Sunset Road east of Boulder Highway is the city's third police station.
It will serve 70 officers, 50 supervisors, and civilian staff, plus department SWAT, horse and K9 units.
Energy-saving design elements include solar panels over covered parking stalls, skylights, carpeting made from recycled materials, a low-energy air conditioning system, low-flow plumbing and a rain-capturing system to water landcaping.
