LAS VEGAS (AP) - A 26-year-old Las Vegas man was sentenced to 10 years to life in prison in the December 2006 death of a 4-year-old boy who authorities say died of internal injuries.
Clark County District Court Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez sentenced Luis R. Ortega on Monday following Ortega's plea last Jan. 28 to second- degree murder in the death of his stepson, Brandon Tamoria-Lamug.
Ortega entered an Alford plea, meaning he didn't admit wrongdoing but acknowledged that prosecutors could prove the case at trial.
The Clark County coroner determined the child died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen, and an autopsy revealed internal bruises and intestinal injuries.
