No Charges in Daycare Drowning

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Officials say a North Las Vegas day care owner
won't face criminal charges in the drowning death of a toddler in a
backyard swimming pool.

A Clark County prosecutor determined there wasn't evidence that
day care owner Marisela Carvajal intentionally endangered children
she was caring for Jan. 13.

In a memo released by North Las Vegas police, a Deputy district
attorney says a criminal conviction for child abuse or neglect
requires intent or knowledge of abuse.

Authorities say three children got out of a gated play area at
Marisela's Family Day Care before 18-month-old Jordan Williams
drowned in a hot tub.

A 3-year-old boy also fell in the water, but was resuscitated.

Officials say Carvajal's facility is licensed by state, county
health and city authorities.
