Rural Clark County Schools Won't Close

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Clark County school trustees aren't going to
close the last two rural schoolhouses in the Las Vegas area due to
budget constraints.

School trustees voted 6-0 on Thursday to postpone for at least a
year closing Goodsprings Elementary School in Goodsprings and Lundy
Elementary School on Mount Charleston.

Parents of the 15 students at the two schools and supporters
pledged to contribute money or time to keep the schools open.

Six Goodsprings students would have to be bused about 20 minutes
to Sandy Valley.

Nine Lundy students would've been bused about 45 minutes to
Indian Springs.

The Goodsprings schoolhouse, 30 miles southwest of Las Vegas,
has been in use since 1913 and is listed on the National Register
of Historic Places.
