Fire Damages Vacant House Near Las Vegas City Hall

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A fire official says a man was arrested on suspicion of trespassing after a fire at a vacant house a couple of
blocks east of Las Vegas City Hall.

No injuries were reported after Las Vegas firefighters arriving at the 9:10 a.m. fire at the small house on Carson Avenue and Seventh Street found a man sleeping in a back doorway.

Police took the man into custody.

Fire spokesman Tim Szymanski (zim-ANN'-skee) says firefighters quickly doused flames in the basement.

They couldn't immediately determine what sparked the fire, but found evidence that it was being used by homeless people.

Damage is estimated at about $15,000.
