Vegas Paper Carrier Crashes Before Morning Route

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A newspaper carrier for the Las Vegas Review-Journal has been killed in a car accident before starting his morning route.

The newspaper identified the carrier killed Saturday morning as 31-year-old Alejandro San Pedro.

Police say San Pedro was driving an SUV west of the Las Vegas Strip when a man driving a convertible ran a red light, causing San Pedro to hit the car on its side.

Authorities say neither driver wore a seat belt. Also not wearing a seat belt was San Pedro's 19-year-old wife, Esther San Pedro Martin, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Review-Journal Distribution Center Manager Chris Smith says San Pedro's wife was helping him on his route. Smith says San Pedro started in August at of one of the paper's distribution centers.
