LAS VEGAS (AP) - State Sen. Bob Beers has sued the Nevada Democratic Party, claiming it libeled him in recent campaign fliers and television ads.
The lawsuit, filed Thursday, alleges the mailer and spots saying the Las Vegas Republican was "Under Ethics Commission Review!!!" are untrue.
Jeorge Martin, a Republican police officer who lives in Beers' district, filed a complaint with the Ethics Commission regarding Beers' role in a bill amendment that benefited his former employer.
Beers maintains he has been told by the Ethics Commission that he's not under investigation.
State Democratic Party Executive Director Travis Brock says the party stands by the accuracy of its statement and the suit was "politically motivated."
Democrat Allison Copening, who's running against Beers, says she knew nothing of the flier and had no role in its creation.
