Suspended Nevada Judge in ICU, Husband Accused of Hitting her with Frying Pan

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A suspended Nevada state judge is hospitalized
and her husband is jailed on attempted murder and domestic violence
charges after he was accused of hitting her in the head with a frying pan.

Police say Elizabeth Halverson is in intensive care after surgery at a Las Vegas hospital.

Her husband, 49-year-old Edward Halverson, is being held at the Clark County jail awaiting an initial court appearance on felony attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon and battery with substantial bodily harm charges.

He was arrested after police were called to their southeast Las Vegas area home late Thursday.

Elizabeth Halverson was suspended in July 2007 and recently lost a primary bid for re-election.

She's been awaiting a decision from the Nevada Commission on
Judicial Discipline about whether she'll be permanently barred from the bench.

The disciplinary panel wrapped up two weeks of hearings last month on allegations that Halverson slept on the bench and mistreated staff members.
