Democratic Challengers Behind in Money Race

LAS VEGAS (AP) - State Sen. Dina Titus outraised Rep. Jon Porter
in July but still trails far behind the Republican incumbent in funding for her campaign in Nevada's 3rd Congressional District.

A Federal Election Commission report shows Titus, a Democrat, took in $87,000 from July 1 to July 23, while Porter took in $55,000.

Still, Porter had more than $1.2 million in cash on hand in late July, about double Titus' $590,000.

The contest in the Las Vegas suburbs is among the most competitive in the country.

In northern Nevada, the race for the Republican-held congressional seat is thought to be a longer shot for Democratic challenger Jill Derby.

The fundraising reports show Rep. Dean Heller had $1 million in cash on-hand in late July after raising $34,000 in the month.

Derby reported raising $26,000 in the period and having $314,000 in cash on hand on July 23.
