LAS VEGAS (AP) - The nonprofit Animal Foundation says it's received 222 entries in a drawing to win puppies rescued from a Las Vegas pet shop fire two months ago.
Foundation spokeswoman Meghan Scheibe says winners will be notified by Wednesday evening, and will then have to pass several screenings before taking their new puppy home.
The 25 puppies were still in their cages at the Prince and Princess pet shop when the fire broke out Jan. 27. The shop owner's estranged wife, Gloria Lee, and a co-defendant, Kirk Bills, are accused of setting the fire for the insurance money.
The puppies then became the subject of a high-profile ownership tug-of-war.
A settlement reached last week allowed the nonprofit to hold the drawing for $250 per entry.
