Nevada State Judge Makes Ethics Apology

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Clark County District Court judge is off the ethics hook after a public apology for making improper political donations in 2004.

Judge Lee Gates also agreed to take an ethics class to end a Nevada Judicial Discipline Commission complaint.

The commission action Thursday settles allegations that Gates improperly contributed $5,000 each from campaign contributions left
from his 2002 re-election bid to Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Karen Bennett-Haron and to Nevada Supreme Court Justice Michael Douglas.

Gates announced recently he won't seek re-election to the Nevada
state court bench, where he's served since 1991. He is married to
former Clark County Commissioner Yvonne Atkinson Gates.
