LAS VEGAS (AP) - A police officer is wounded and a suspect is
dead after a shooting at a strip club several miles west of the Las Vegas Strip.

Police Officer Bill Cassell says the officer is hospitalized in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Cassell says the incident began when a man was ejected from the
Penthouse Club about 7 a.m. Thursday. Police say the man returned
with a gun and began firing into the club.

He then fled the scene. Police pursued him several miles east before his sport utility vehicle veered off the road and rolled over in the desert in southwest Las Vegas.

Cassell says the suspect shot the officer as he approach the overturned vehicle. The officer returned fire.

After securing the area and evacuating about 10 homes, the man was found dead in the vehicle.

Cassell could not confirm the suspect's identity or cause of death.
