LAS VEGAS (AP) - A restaurant owner is anchoring an effort to raise money to send the body a man shot and killed in a drive-by shooting Las Vegas back to his native El Salvador for burial.
Jose Gilberto Guerrero died May 17 after he was shot twice in a neighborhood several blocks west of the Las Vegas Strip. Two friends with Guerrero were wounded, but survived. Police say the shooting was gang-related.
Samosa Factory Indian Cuisine owner Rick Aco held a fundraiser on Sunday. He says friends and family hope to raise $7,000 to return Guerrero to El Salvador, where most of his family lives.
Zulma Yessenia-PeIna, Guerrero's girlfriend and the mother of their 3-year-old daughter, works as a dishwasher at the restaurant.
